In recent weeks, I have made a determined effort to live a less … DIGITAL … lifestyle. Since I made the decision to do this, I have been involved in the development of three new web sites (one of them a store site), started a Go Fund Me campaign, and updated another one of my sites to a rudimentary Social Network.
So much for de-digitalizing myself.
I have managed to severely limit my FBing though, so I guess that is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, this attempt to live in the “real” world has resulted in me curbing my own tendencies for creative thought, which was not really part of the pan. For instance, I have not participated in the vaunted 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups in forever … which is tantamount to sacrilege!!
How’s that for using big words. Do I look smart now?
So I decided to do this week’s challenge, only to find that there does not seem to be a challenge this week. I guess folk are just busy with the holidays and all. I could go back and do one of the ones I missed. Or I could simply do a bit of creation all by my little lonesome. I think I will try that approach. I think it is time to take liberties with a holiday poem again … it has been a bit of a tradition for me. Let’s see what I can manage:
Twas a few weeks before Christmas, when all through the land
Many people were stirring, it was time to take a stand.
The stocks were all shifted by CEO’s who didn’t care,
In hopes that more profit soon would be there.
The children were wondering about their next meal
While the greedy and powerful planned their next deal.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just rattled our brains on how to pay for our crap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a man with a sign, worthy of a cheer.
With others supporting, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it was time to raise the stick.
Many others saw the sign, and running they came,
They read , and shouted, and all said the same!
“No more greed! No more selfishness! No more giving us slim pickin’.
Higher , wages! Better, treatment! Your morals do sicken!
To the family store! Don’t shop at the mall!
Tell corporate greed to share the wealth with us all!”
It is time to remember that THE PEOPLE is us.
Time that we began to raise a big fuss.
Health and well being is due to us all,
It’s time we remember before we all fall.
Remember what is important, its not THINGS and STUFF,
Catering to the greedy is plain not good enough!
Before it’s too late, remember wrong from right.
Wake up America and fight the good fight!
